The post gave you instructions to join the site and it was moved to discuss weather this was spamming or not.
I have put a suggestion forward for the member to place a link in his signiture too.
If the post was simply to to show the site and posted in the links section then it would have been left but as mods we need to know what is and isn't acceptable or classed as spamming.

The only thing i will say is i did offer recipricol link via my banner page which will be finished this week sometime. its not the point though mate its the nazi regime stamping its authority again There is no nazi regime stamping its authority at all and like i kave said many times before cookie nobody makes you stay and read things you don't like you choose too Wasnt spamming fella of that i can assure you. I have 2 succesful link ups with 2 other forums one a course and predator forum the other a carp forum and inter twining is a good experience thus far. Even got an inter torum match arranged for next year lol like i said no offence was intended or taken if post is removed The link with banners ect can be discussed with admin if you want to contact them direct. We have no problem with craftycarping having his site link in his signature. The mod who pulled the post has left an explanation where it was moved to and why but it seems there are members of the site that don't like mods or the way the site is run and just like to jump at the chance of having a pop this isn't the first time or will it be the last and it's certainly not craftycarpings fault. It was the wording of the post that was being discussed as to what we interpret as spamming or not that was why it was removed so all on the team understand. How does anybody expect the site to get better if we don't discuss matters Gaz

Ok I'll bite, what is wrong with putting a link on the Links page? As for blatent plugs, (ouch that hurt, as I have no connection with Bait Kitchen, but I thought their session pack idea was a good one, and over here in the darkest Colne Valley area of the West Riding anything Carp or rather non-Trout orientated should I think be encouraged), there are posts about Fishing Republic, loads of references to Erics Angling, and a whole list of Carp Bait firms on the site. To my mind a link on the Links page is not spamming. BOF

Think a simple explanation will possibly help BOF.
I could say make a website that requires you to sign up/register. Within that sign up I can then extract your IP adress details as with most forums or chat sites for that matter those details are required for administrative reasons. As I then have your IP details it would then make it easier for me, (if I had the right type of knowledge and softwares) to be able to hack into your PC and then extract whatever information I want. Now your possibly asking why do forums or chat sites need peoples IP details to start with. Simple. If those people who sign up behave in such a manner that is not acceptable then they would need to be banned/denied access to the site and this is done in a number of ways. Banning the username is one to start with (which could be bypassed by creating a new account), banning the IP address (more secure as then the person would need to change his IP address which isn't always possible as it would depend on the ISP, or finally banning the IP and the DNS of the ISP ( a lot more secure but only used as a last resort as it could also affect others who use that specific ISP and their IP is within the IP range specified on the ban).
The whole purpose of removing that type of link he put was purely to make sure it is safe for the members of this forum to use and therefore not pose a risk to anyone. So basically the team are putting YOU the members first.

Interesting post Darkstone, but the user would have to download and more importantly a file, usually an executable, even the crudest anti virus product should warn of that Let me tell you a little of my past, who remembers a game called Half Life and its modifications for example Counterstrike ? If you ever played such a game, surely you would have been plagued by cheaters and people accusing you of cheating. Now at this time I talked to a guy called GOCP who is now a Docter of sorts in computer engineering. We created a program that when a user downloads the specific file and ran it it would check for known cheat files and output to a secure irc channel, the website and service still exist - the database alone for cheats is just over 40k of files totalling 2gb and growing the program itself like many anti-virus programs can be programmed to look for whatever we want it to look for including many other games. How secure is it ? Its written and coded in c++ and uses mp5 and shah hashing, look those up on google - 99% accurate. What is more surprising is the lenghts people go to in order to cheat, the risks at least 50% of the "cheats" they download do contain keylogging software. So to clairify yes you can gain someones IP, with a downloaded and run file a hell of a lot more. Welcome to the internet its full of bad people .... use at your own risk Think this has gone way off topic now A link is a link - if anyone wants one for the anti cheat site of mine just shout

You don't need to download a file at all Gizzy just a cookie is enough. You just need the right softwares running on your webserver. Look at all chatsites for example. All the staff use Mirc which is a very powerfull piece of software for chatsites and has a vast array of commands available for various functions and operations and if you have the right server privelidges setup on the server your able to do all sorts of things including reverse DNS lookup which enables them to see not just their IP but even what ISP they use and what area of the country. But no it does not give you the persons home address....lol.....only the ISP has that info.

And that couple of posts were supposed to be:- a) written in English and b) helpfull to a computer numpty like me! Come on lads, get real, I consider "cut and paste" technical achievements. That is why, with all the time I have available, I have not taken up the challenge of updating the main site. Ok, I understand that there may be a risk to folk on the site, if we allow links as we used to. But nothing in life is risk free, and using the internet is more risky than walking down a Cape Town street. However surely folk have a security program to help deal with the difficulties you outline? BOF
