Nobody seems to have mention this about Drayton. There is a British Waterways 24 hour information number where you can find out up to the minute info on how the Res is fishing. As a bonus it is a Leeds number. 01132 816895

we fished sticky baits xs on the hair with small bags of pellets and chopped boilies.we only had 3 fish in the first 2 hours until we'd played around enough with our baits realising what they wanted. Then it went mad.Its worth taking a selection of baits though lee as there were people around us who hardly caught. It was blowing a gale the whole time we were there though so the floater gear never came out but i'm sure it would have done well. One disapointing thing though was the state of the fishes mouths they were absolutely hammered, thats the reason i think that we lost over 30 fish, you'll understand what i mean when you go. good luck though mate
p.s we fished the boards, but we were told when we were finishing that the bigger fish come out further around from the boards

There is a variety of methods you can use at drayton. Ive fished several pegs on the res, one of the my best days was of the wall.
Bagging waggler obviously the best choice, feeding 6m to 8m pellets ( but take enough!) i went through a full bucket of pellets.
Groudbait feeder - with 50/50 molasas and crumb.
Hook baits - White chocloate bollies 10mm.(baggin wag) Sweetcorn (both) Hair rigged sugar puffs! (feeder)
Boards do well with paste, fished close in (inbetween the boards). be very careful the bites are aggresive and they head under the boards.
P.s Aways have a hand on the rod!!! and dont drink tea whilst your fishing!
Regards

Obviously make sure your set up is snag free whilst using 2 rods!
I have seen rods ripped from peoples hands at drayton whilst holding them!
Good luck hope you do well!

I was here last week and the water level has dropped so that all the boards are left with about 1ft of water under them! The carp were still cruising under hear but are very hard to stop if they go under the boards. I was using 13lb line and they go like stink for the snags! I was fishing the highly rated boat house boards and the best way to fish it was using the baggin waggler with white pellets on the hair rig at about 2ft down and feeding 6/8mm pellets over that! Biggest weighed in at 17lb and the smallest about 8lb! I travelled from sheffield arrived there at 6.30am and fished till 6pm and had 10 fish on a stupidly hot day. Can't wait to go back!!!!!

Had my own "off the wall" moment yesterday, we ( Spudgun, Chris, and Sam) arrived at 7.30am (ish), and were fishless until mid afternoon, cooking slowly on the exposed platforms. It was all looking very embarrassing. Come 3.30pm however and like the switching on of a machine, the Carp arrived in my peg in a feeding mood, and in an hour or so the fish topped and shouldered all over the dam wall area. However they didn't seem to go anywhere near the two leger rigs I had out, (nor the others for that matter). I must point out at this juncture that the water off the dam wall was around 8ft deep under the rod tip, dropping to around 30ft at 30yds range, or so, and I realized that the tight line in mid water, may be spooking the fish. So I switched to fishing with slack lines, ie I let the rig and PVA net of pellets sink on a slack line untill it hit bottom, then dropped the rod tip till it touched the sand in front of the peg, and slowly tightened the line letting it run along the bottom, and lifted the rod up to the alarms still letting slack line off the spool. Ok, you dont get drop back bites, but the screamers when the fish ripped off with the bait left nothing to the imagination. Finally one made a mistake, and it all went on from there. Soon fish after fish began zipping off with the boilie, ("Howard the rigs" barbless flouro rigs working faultlessly, as usual), and a hectic s developed. I really understand the suggestion to take one rod out at this point, as I was working like someone demented to tie the PVA nets of boilie and mini pellet fast enough to keep two rods in the water, after I used up the pre tied ones I had prepared. It was manic! Especially with two fish being played at the same time, (something that occurred quite frequently). Finally I dropped off a fish in mid s , and I did something I have never done before in over 40 years of fishing, simply sinking back on my seat, and saying "thank G** for that!", I was totally exhausted, and almost out of bait. What a day! ;D Frankly I was completely exhausted, and had totally lost count of the numbers of fish. Ok the biggest we had between us (Spudgun) was only around 15 / 16lb, (smallest, which was one of mine around 8 / 9lb), but the shear number of them were mind boggling, so if it has to be BIG Carp and BIG only, then dont go to Drayton. Yes, there are large fish in there (c40lb), but simply isolating them from the run of the mill fish, would be a nightmare. No, go for the experience of a completely different world, and be prepared for it to leave you whacked out. BOF

It was a good day in the end Phil, had a couple more after you left then followed you up the motorway. I have seen carp bubbling before but have never seen anything like you had in front of you, the water looked like a jacuzzi in about a 15 yard belt, hate to even guess at the amount of carp that were ripping up the bottom for those mini pellets.
