cheers graham
spent most of the winter and early spring in new zealand where my daughter now lives
have become a born again fly fisherman - nz rivers are stuffed full of big trout and the scenery is breathtaking. buy a licence and you can fish virtually anywhere
have done a bit of sea fishing - plenty of snapper and various tunas, my best being a 10kilo albacore - not huge by local standards
the future son-in-law's boss has a boat and has invited me to go marlin/sailfish fishing when the weather warms up so there's a good enough reason to go back when our weather worsens and nz's improves
seriously thinking of going out there for good - basically a fishermans paradise as well as wonderful friendly people and a good standard of living. would miss the occasional pint of black sheep tho
hope you're well and catching loads

Hi Phil, well yes, but fishing here is difficult, lakes are still cold , after the weather we have had its unreal? The fish are in the edge ,but hard work stalking, even started spawning again last week. Lots of rays about, so must have a chuck down the beach for a smalleyed, though the 8 billion spider crabs around here may make it tiresome. NZ?? ENOROMUS yellowtail kingfish!! little painful I have heard. funny enough it is a bit too far south for a lot of the bigger lure species, but I think the freshwater eels would make up for that? 20+ at least.
Mrs Jsy has made me book another week in sunny Bodo, she wants a big flattie. Will keep an eye on here and drop a message tightlines for now.

had a couple of sessions at the coast - few schoolies, nothing big. Thought I'd do better with the warm sea temps an all
not really in the loop any more for best locations, tides etc Not sure how bass fishing has been generally - few posts on TLF any more or any where else for that matter
yeah plenty of big fish out in new zealand - mick, the guy with the boat, catches good numbers of marlin tho the season is quite short. Kingfish are the favourite target for most - but I've yet to try for them
seen some huge eels - wont be fishing for them tho !!
aiming to return in october when the seas and rivers warm up a bit
cheers for now
