Hi . I am beginning to spend a lot of time in the Pontivy area of France and was hoping somebody had any decent locations to fish . I have found quite a few decent ones myself now that I can share including a few decent municipal lakes but its mainly the Blavet and its fantastic bream shoals I am after . I am especially interested in the St Nicolas des Eaux part of this wonderful river .

The only place I've fished in that area is Fishabil, (Loscouet sur Meu), and then only for the Carp, Cats and Sturgeon. Sorry.
Good luck though.

Thanks BOF
That's a long way out of my area but thanks anyway . As usual its finding the river that's a problem it runs for miles and miles but a lot is unreachable. Its like Deliverance with Garlic. I am surely finding the small tracks down to the better spots and the fishing is amazing . The locals are not interested if you cant put butter on it . Regards BB

Whilst looking on Bing maps for a venue for this years trip to France I checked on the distance from Pontivy to our venue for last years trip on the Loire near Chateaudun, and I now understand your problem. France is big, very big, (the distance works out near enough 450 miles round trip !), not the sort of thing you would consider for an afternoon session. No wonder you are looking for something just a bit closer. Good luck. BOF

The Villane between Bain de Bretange and Redon is accessible for most of the river [road runs along side] and its in your area so same licence. I only ever fished in Pontivy once so no help there. You proper fishing or carping?

Thanks Jersey man proper fishing of course . Sorry for the late reply . Its about 2 hours to the Villane but I will give it a go . We have just fished the Blavet at Pont Augin but the Sun killed the fishing and turned my ears into pork scratchings . When the fishings good on this river its very very good but I am still trying to find my way around it . We fished cage feeders with pellet, corn and worm for bream to 6lb . Tench to same and usual roach and small fish including nice perch and odd small chub . Theres reputed to be big carp but I haven't connected yet. I have seen them in Pontivy mooching about in the weed though .Not fished in the town though yet ,a bit public. If youre in the area let me know and I will pass on what spots I have found so far .

Thanks BOF know what you mean about distances . But the roads are dead . And even quieter on Sundays . Its like Britain back in the 70s with Sunday closing etc . I am getting to know the area now though and slowly finding the venues including one that produces Rudd to 3lb with a 2lb fish almost guaranteed .Honest.. The last time I caught anything like this was back in the 80S on the rubbish dump below Burgess park on the Shannon at Athlone. Caught a few black ribbed Knobblers too . Good luck on your next France trip

Hello BB, I don't fish in France no more after stopping matchfishing, too expensive a ferry, 300mile round trip ,50 notes on fuel& bait, all for a kg of eyes on many venues. If you want a bash at Zander the Villane has quite a few, especially in the middle sections, which in reality is hardly fished. Of more note, the French [odd ones do] do not deadbait for pike in the winter, so a few trips late Nov/Dec before the close season may provide a biggie? I did have one of 17lb that grabbed a skimmer which I fluked into the net, there the luck ended as it was in Feb and had to be returned unweighed. The Douve up in Normandy used to have some monstrous rudd ,lovely fish to catch. tight lines and hope the French catfish nuts don't illegally stock cats in it. Slowly destroying the Villane it seems. tight lines Graham
