I always use Maxima or Berkley Trilene 2lb or 3lb for stick float fishing with my 'Pin - but I've never used anything on either. They both are sturdy lines and even though 'light' lines I have had Chub to 6lb+ on them. I tend to use Trilene when the river is really clear. Only load about 50mt on your 'Pin to avoid the line bedding in and not flowing off correctly - a Mate of mine only uses 30mt.!

Sorry just read my post again. I use maxima for wagler and soak in soapy water but that will make it sink slightly, cos it degrease it but if you wanna use a spray to make it float use Mr sheen. No need for expensive line sprays

Many thanks for your help mate, looking forward to having a go, did a little bit years ago but used a fixed spool reel.

As far as I'm concerned, ideally you want a genuinely bouyant line for stick float fishing. Sinking lines can float, especially if they are fine diameter or they are treated to do so. However, I find this less than acceptable. Far better to have a line that floats naturally.
Once upon a time, I used Ultima Flo-Cast. Its hollow construction meant it floated like a top without any treatment. However, it wasn't without its downsides and its been discontinued anyway. I've been trying alternatives over the last year or so. Drennan Float Fish and Kamasan Bayer Perlon are reputed to be the same line. Both are pretty good, especially at the low price. However, I'm not entirely convinced that they are identical and marginally prefer the Perlon.
More recently I've been dabbling with braid, Powerpro, on one of my pins. So far so good. It floats like a top, is easy to pick up and very direct. The downside is the high cost (helped a little by the fact it'll last a lot longer than any mono) and the god awful noise it makes through rod rings. It can also be a little awkward in breezier conditions.

I always use daiwa line it tends to float well which i s what you need for the stick float as Zanthas says only put 50 or 60 yds of line on the pin otherwise it can bed in and cuse the line to stickmto the drum.

Same as wilson drennan float fish ive never had a problem with it, it floats well and its easy to control in fast water i think its because it seems abit stiffer than most reel lines.
