Saw 3 anglers fishing today on the Calder at Stanley Ferry. 2 more came down the bank and told them that they'd better not get caught because it was the close season then announced that they were off on to the river themselves further down. Just wondering whether the EA actually bother to police the river banks at all during the close season. I very rarely get asked for my license during the season anyway (3 times in about 50 years!) so what are the chances of them catching any out of season anglers? I did report some close season river anglers to the EA last close season for fishing on Chantry Bridge but the EA didn't appear that interested. We all know where the scallies without licences or fishing rivers in the close season do their fishing so why don't the EA ever seem to be doing checks there? Conspicuous by their absence I think.

To be honest rich i think if i didn't get a license next year or any club books and went fishing every weekend i wouldn't get caught, sad state of affairs really, i can see why ppl ignore the rules

Ring the EA and tell them they are taking salmon, that get's them off their bums. Apparently it happened on the A&C some EU's with long lines were reported as taking salmon police and EA on bank within the hour arrested them and fined them. daz
