I'm hearing whispers of a change in the EA rules for next season, to allow anglers to buy a 3 rod licence instead of having to buy 2 x 2 rod licences. Anyone got any hard information, or is just someone "testing the waters" so to speak? BOF

The one change I'd like to see is the licence to run for 12 months from the date of purchase.

You should just have to buy 1 licence for for rods It's a joke 1 licence have as many cars as you want 1 licence have 200 TVs 1 licence to sell as much beer as you want There's only fishing where you need 2 licences It should be £40 one off payment I'd be happy with that It's a pinttence for what you get Bit 2 licence is a scam

seems a misconception that the EA are only funded from the rod licence
a mere pitance to the budgets they get from the goverment

I don't mind paying 40 for the year even 50. as long at the end of the year I can see where my money was spent. they prob make more money from fines

I would mind paying 40 or 50 for a license where I only use one rod.

Misconception Viking Dave. They get nought from fines at all! All money received from fines goes via Courts to the Exchequer. Yes the government takes the lot. E.A. only get their costs for taking a case to court, provided they win or there's a guilty plea. Got that from my leagle eagle soliciter cousin. He says there's standard amounts set for "hands up" guilty pleas but pleading not guilty requiring a trial will cost an offender found guilty very much more in costs and probably a bigger fine.

I don't begrudge paying for a licence at all, but as I see it you should only need one if fishing the estuaries, rivers and canals. These are the responsibility of the EA. Why do we need a licence to fish commercials? What is it on commercials that the EA actually provide? When was the last time you were asked to produce your licence on either a day ticket or subscription water? Only ever been asked for mine once!!

I've only ever been asked for my licence on commercials And the jumped up PR!!!ck was arrogant with me and funky,,, he tried to fine funky for having his rod but 8 foot apart from him I sh!t you not he got a tape measure out to measure the distance hey did you know when there jackets get wet they inflate up a bit like James bonds snow suit in tommorrow never dies !!!! It's it's just another tax like when thatcher ontroduced vat, Vat was initially a tax on LUXARY items,, other day I noticed vat on my blooming gas and electric bill since when did the gas and sparks become LUXARY it's necessity in my eyes I would pay a £100 a year for rod licence if it was just 1 licence and the money went into actual things fishy,,, But I'm sure somehow the money don't reach where it should somehow,,, Hmmm

I understand having them for rivers as the do re stock fish into them and they do look after them but not on commercial fisheries.

Looks like this is gaining some real momentum. This snippet is now on the EA website: www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/37943.aspxLicence Duties and Conditions Licence duties and conditions are set for 2012 and 2013, but we are currently considering our licence duty proposals for 2014 and beyond. We will be reviewing certain aspects of the licensing system to give better service to rod licence payers. We will be addressing the number of rods allowed per licence as part of this review. Options for change are currently being considered, but there is strong support to allow three rods on one licence for stillwater fishermen. We will be consulting on firm proposals early next year. The cost for the extra licence would depend on the number of anglers involved, but would probably not exceed £10.

Received my direct debit notification for rod licence renewal. Cost £27 again, but no indication on this correspondence with regards to increasing number of rods - so guessing with this and the price being the same the EA are sticking to two rods per licence.

While visiting my Wife in Hospital this week I picked up an Angler's Mail with some mags for her. There is an article about the problems with producing the licenses BUT more interestingly an article about Angling being short-changed because the money is not being used for fishery work!! The article contributed to by the Angling Trust and Institute of Fisheries Management both agree there is a large discrepancy between what the EA receive and what they spend on Angling. One quote was "....a 'very large slice' of the annual fisheries budget of around £30 million is being spent on funding the EA head office" -another "....some of the managers care very little about fisheries work" -- says a lot !!! Read it if you can
