after looking in various brochures and being quoted over £250 each for me n my fishing widow im just asking if anybody knows the best part of ireland to go for the grand canal. fink rather stick to canals not into these huge lakes lol as im gunna look into booking ferry n accomadation meself surely cheaper also do ya need a licence for southern ireland i heard yes n no

As woodchucker says youve got to get on the shannon!! Potumna especially.
The stretch we were fishing was called rogers island. Its not too far off canal fishing really, we were fishing pole about 9 metres i think, just on the bottom of the drop-off. Feeding a satsuma size ball of groundbait every put ( which is every fish) netfulls of big roach/ bream hybrids and the odd bream. Awesome fishing!

Awesome fishing! and how long ago did you go? ? been quite a few times over the years and fished all over Ireland and its now where near as good as it use to be due to poachers and the like.... I would personally say go for the craic and thats it .....
