I would have put this in the "good access thread", but i think it should be in a "was good but somebody buggered it up" thread. I am talking about Barmby Barrage on the Derwent , i love to fish this area of the river and my wife who is in a wheelchair likes to come with me , mainly to laugh at al the tiddlers i catch. We would park in the carpark where there are toilets , and walk (i would push her) over the Barrage and down the path to the two concrete platforms where we could fish safely. Each peg had a low wall around so there was no chance of meher rolling over the edge, and i could rest the rods on the edge on a towell, great. That was until some bright spark decided the low wall was not enough and had a high set of railing put up with what i can only describe as bow slits , what you would see on an old castle where the archers would fire arrows from to defend it. Well with these in place fishing becomes more like that game where you have to work the loop along the bendy wire without making it touch and ring the bell. and once you have mastered that , god help you if you do catch a decent fish as you either have to drag it through the bars , or haul it over the top. So well done whoever you are ,i now take the wife when she wants to come with me there a bit further up stream on the other side above the moorings, its a bit rough but at least we can get to the water. right i'm done now. daz

Darran77's complaint needs to be put someplace where the general public can see it, and act on it, (like say in a campaign in the local paper), to get a bit of momentum going to have the obstructions removed or at least dialed back a lot. It's another of those idiotic "make work schemes" that whist trying to make life totally "suing proof" for the local council, end up making life more difficult for the dissabled folk who it was intended to help in the first place.
