Hello there, bit of an introduction here. been fishing for over 20 years, since the first perch on the canal with a cane and a net with a bit of worm tied on and no hook. ha. went through the pole, then feeder, then to target more specific fish, mainly carp, after years of reluctancy decided for in my opinion the "Lazy" approach of buzzers and alarms and such. done a bit of pike fishing recently too. im not expert in anything but like i say have been spending time on the bank for over 20 years. seems these days the big tackle firms entice young people straight into specemin carp fishing before theyve even held or heard of a roach lol. anyway thats me

Overall had a pretty poor carp season since mid summer 2011-2012 lol. really poor, loads of blanks. nothing caught of any decent size at all., i think i tried to reinvent my fishing style as to the pro carpers and i think this was my downfall. not being comfortable with bait placements, trying too hard to cast and bait and locate like a pro. i think sometimes back to basics is best. so i did that, back to my old fashioned mono hair rig hook link and a pear inline lead setup, not spending lots of time trying to feature find on the bottom, messing about with markers floats and going back to my old days, if it looks good cast to it and wait and see.however sine the ditching the complicated rigs and farfetched methods i did catch a 19lb pike from my local home stretch of the river mersey in warrington, (i live in Harrogate now but still have a warrington card as i frequent home alot) also within the last 4 weeks had a 20lb grass carp and a 10lb grass carp both on home made boilies from Thorpe Underwood meadows near whixley. i really like this venue. im used to fishing really old natural gravel pits or quarrys, not really into the commercialism of fishing at all. not sure why. i do rate thorpe underwood very highly though. and do enjoy going when i can.

Welcome aboard mate. Good to see you're back catching. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Don't forget these big tackle companies are selling products so they're always pushing new things in your face to make you buy. You don't need all of them. Get some pictures up, that's a clonking grass carp and i'd love to see the pike!

also within the last 4 weeks had a 20lb grass carp and a 10lb grass carp both on home made boilies from Thorpe Underwood meadows near whixley. You had a 20lb grassie from thorpe underwood recently ? i didn't think there was much in there these days, i used to fish there regularly a few years back, only had one downside...used to attract a lot of muppets, who left rubbish and had no bankside manners. nice one on your capture ! got any photos ?
