hi graham, i fished the old embasy div 1 national back in 1998 (same day as my 18th so we had a hell of a weekend lol)
from what i remember it was around 30-40 meters wide, around 10 meters out on a pole line it was around 10ft deep, not sure about in middle. we got some local info from a local that fished for us as we were a man short. we were supposed( i will explain) to fish pole for a mixture of fish and bonus tench, feeding chop worm and caster etc, and swim feeder for bream. they responded to normal bream type baits and groundbait. however it chucked it down few days before and the river is acctualy a large land drain so it runs off only after heavy rain. i ended up fishing a feeder over my pole line and had a large bag of bream and some monster eels! chop worm and groundbait in feeder and worm on hook.

cheers Binner, i read at the time that it was nearly a wash out, the eels, would you have got them out on the pole if you had fished a big flat float?
its going to be interesting, as we will probably not get chance to practice, so we will have to see, did you have any plans for scratching for bits etc?

i think you would struggle to get them out on the pole, they were proper snakes. yes it was nearly a wash out! the team i was with at the time had no intention of fishing 'as a team' we just used to go and fish for our selfs but on team matches as they had bigger turn outs

Well, we went saw ,we caught. lovely bit of countryside. people friendly in the accomadation and pub.
the fishing ,as on all rivers was patchy, well at least where our team was pegged. without singlyling any of our blokes out. we had a sect 2nd and 2 x 4ths, unfortunately the rest [and me] were last. [only five teams of 10 in it] p*ss poor turnout.
jnr was last in his with 3kg i managed to come last with 5kg. new one on me that, last with 11lb?? top weight was 43kg, with a few over 20kg. most sects were won with 10kg plus ,all bream on the feeder.
even the locals were mildly surprised.
hopefully will be on the same stretch next year and be a bit scratching match as we hoped for this year.
