There are fisheries that do help disabled anglers.

In all fairness,
Most of the places I've been to have had disabled access / pegs for disabled. Even if you have to wheel across some grass - the fishing place always offer a helping hand.
Have you tried calling the fishery before hand to see if they'll offer assistance?

Wheeling across grass in summer when dry isn't too bad but when wet and muddy is a nightmare also those venues that state disabled friendly but have gravel or small stones on the pathways really need to sit in a wheelchair themselves and then see just how hard it is to move on.

Oh how true is that one! A carp angling pals wife is now wheelchair bound with M.S. and seeing what she goes through on a supposedly "disabled friendly" path fair upsets me. So yes, I think that folk who run a fishery should travel round the fishery in a wheelchair themselves, before pronouncing the venue disabled friendly. Ok, there are some gems out there its not all "doom and gloom", and there are some fisheries folk who have gone that extra mile in making access available. So lets hear more about these fisheries as they are visited, give some credit where its due, and at the same time pass around some very useful information. BOF

Dont know if this helps...
Newbridge allow people who are disabled to park on the grass at the pegs... upon showing a valid pass though. (So people don't abuse it).

Thats precisely the point Liver-Red. Fisheries think that by allowing cars to be able to park near pegs that they are disabled friendly and that thats all thats needed. They then dismiss the fact that the person has to get out of the vehicle, unfold their wheelchair, get into their chair, then unload their gear and take it onto the peg itself. But is the peg level? does it have footboards to prevent cheelchairs going over the edge? is the ground firm or gravel?. There are so many variables that the owners dont look at and really in all essence they are not disabled friendly at all.

I agree with some of your comments but the place i fish now have two disabled spots that have wider platforms ideal for wheelchairs user and you can park your car near you . But this place is a syndicate water. But i tried a Day ticket Rush Lyvars in Hedon it very disabled friendly you park your car , they even have disabled stickers on pegs . When i arrived i could not manage my gear and they put it on a barrow and straight to the peg , I thought what fantastic service and i will be going back. But saying that i am on two sticks . and you are in a wheelchair try it and see. I only got told of this place who live in hull went to a place at Leven but they forgot tell me high bank and steps which was not suitable .

This is not intended to start a row or offend any one but percentage wise most disabled people are not so unfortunate as to be in a wheel chair.so any venue where the car park is close by,with a reasonably flat walk to the peg could be described as disabled friendly, maybe a wheelchair friendly status could be introduced,of course that would probably upset the politically correct mob.

No offence taken at all Warden. I am not disabled personally at a mobility level but when a venue states disabled friendly you do have to look at a worse case scenario of disability purely as to accomodate all levels of disability. As one person has correctly stated word wise wheelchair friendly would be the best way for a fishery to advertise the level at which it covers.

Most fisheries are 'disabled' friendly. Most will help you with your gear. However, introducing a "wheel chair friendly" term would be better! Personally I've only seen a few people in wheel chairs fishing on pegs literally next to the car door.... In my view, I can see why fisheries don't pay out the extra ££££'s to tarmac a route to pegs. They wouldn't get their cost's back. I'm not anti disabled, I go out my way to help them In fact, my old man is disabled - no wheel chair yet... but who knows what will happen in the future
