Pikey - that first picture of yours of the private lake near to you - is it at Langthorne near Bedale by any chance? That photo you have taken looks very familiar. It looks like Langthorne Pond as it used to be known, and if it is, well it has some monster fish in it of several species.
Please let me know mate, I would be very interested to know if its the same place. If not where is it? Reason I ask is because I am actually from Brompton on Swale originally and currently live in Leeds, but I do come up to Catterick and Richmond regularly to go fishing.
Thanks mate
Julian

Hi Julian,
I was born and lived in Leeds for 20 years then moved up here 10 years ago. The lake is the nature reserve lake at Bolton On Swale, it's the one that's just off the coast road by the poplars as you go towards Scorton. It's looked after by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust but they wont let anyone fish it at all.
Where abouts is the one at Langthorne?

Thanks for that mate.
I know the very pond you mean, situated next to Ellerton Reservoir. It has always been a nature reserve, I remember when it was first dug out. It has never been a fishing lake and I bet it never will. You used to get a lot of bird watchers down there and I bet you still do.
Things have changed since I moved down here though, it never used to have any fish in it. Its always a shame when you know there are good fish present and you aren't allowed to catch them! A crying shame even!!
Langthorne Pond, now here is a blast from the past. From a certain angle it does look very much like the pond in your photo which is why it got me all excited!
This pond is situated at Langthorne, a tiny little village next to the A1 just before you get to Bedale. If you go through Catterick and head on the back roads towards Bedale, it is signposted either just before or just after Crakehall. When you get to Langthorne itself, the road comes to a dead end where there is a farm on your left with a high wall around it, and a dusty track. The track is about a mile long and at the end is another large house on your left, followed by a barn on your right (if the barn is still standing that is!!). The pond is just to the left of the barn.
It used to be owned by the farmer who charged £3 a day. I last fished it when I was about 17 (so thats 17 years ago) and its full of tench, roach and bream. There are some large pike and good perch in there too.
I have had some beautiful big tench out of there, not to mention a roach over 2lbs, but as I say its half my life ago since I fished it. The farmer no longer owns it, lets say maybe 15 years ago it was sold to a syndicate and it changed its name to something like Bluebell Lake or it was the Bluebell syndicate, either way I was unable to fish it or find out any more info on how to join the syndicate etc, so I gave up.
I would love to fish it again as there always were good fish in it.
Cheers,
Julian

Magdale outside Huddersfield this afternoon. After last nights winds I wasn't expecting much at all in the way of leaves to be on the trees, but was quite pleasantly surprised. BOF

The pond is just to the left of the barn. I think I know the place you mean. If it's where I'm thinking of I re-planted a section of wood for the land owner there. It was the most precise bit of planting I'd ever done, the saplings had to be EXACTLY 5 metres apart. The land owner used to come down with a tape measure at various intervals throughout the day to take measurements. I'll have a drive down tomorrow after I drop the kids off at school, see what I can find out.
