Hi.
Just came across the forum and thought id join as its yorkshire and all :-)
Just back into fishing and doing more on canals and rivers. Had some nice fish off the Don in sheffield now looking to the canals while its close season.
Any tips on river / canal spots in the area greatly received.
Rich

Welcome to the forum mate. If you like match fishing have a look at the YF social match section. We have 8 matches during summer, just for points and trophies with a nice set of lads. No money prizes so no pressure! I do a fair few sessions on the Don around Oughtibridge, some nice chub up there as well as the trout and grayling, if you can find them. My lad lives there so I know lots of good spots. Rich

Hi mate, I tend to leave the park alone tbh. Too many kids and ducks. I start upstream on the other side to the park, on the football fields. Walk down the road that runs alongside the river, then through the fence into the footy field. Some nice spots there. Had some nice chub up there. Then I fish downstream from the bridge down through Beeley Woods. A lot is very shallow but some cracking spots down there. I've fished back of sweet factory and done ok and intend doing some sessions on Salmon Pastures this year. Its a bit deeper down there so hoping to find the chub and barbel one day. For canals down there, Sheffield canal has been throwing up some big carp lately but they take some catching. Riverman (Mark) has been fishing the Mexborough canal, that's been fishing really well in last few years for silvers. Stainy canal at Thorne is probably top canal for silvers in S. Yorks. For canal bream head to the Aire and Calder near Heck, some massive match weights been caught lately.

We've had a few good days on the back side of meadowhall just near that newish industrial estate and hop over the wall.

Try opposite the scaffold yard on Salmon Pastures. Stuffed with Grayling and Trout. Double red two foot deep on stick float. You can wade all the way across. Park up on Warren Street down from City Sauna and the entrance to Five Weirs Walk. Another decent stretch is Stevenson Rd. Park on the bridge and walk upstream 50 yards. Climb through the railings and wade across. There's a gulley on far bank holding quality Grayling. And it's all free fishing. Roll on 16th June
