This is the one match that I would have loved to have attended. Used to work for Frigoscandia and spent many hours on the site in South Kirkby - and would have been a perfect excuse for visiting that neck of the woods again. Unfortunately, I work continental shift pattern and this happens to be my weekend for working. Hope you all have a great time.

Unlucky.there will certainly be one or two practice sessions before the match if your work allows, people will usually post when they are going.

Had a chat with the owner of Loxley a few years ago must admit he opened my eyes up regarding having to use fishery's own pellets, fish are living creatures needing nutritious food to grow and thrive, would you give your dog food from £ land that is (you get) exactly what you pay for a big bag of worthless (nutrient wise)pellets and I know "we" use proper pellets but some don't the other thing is anglers want a stocking level far higher than the fishery can naturally support food wise fishery's do feed the fish otherwise they would die and over a period of time the owners can work out what to feed better when they have an idea on how much food they have sold "empty bags in bins etc.most pellets are no dearer than you buy at a local shop, yes it is a pain especially for such as me who has access to 20 kilo bags that we use to feed the fish at our waters

Dont entirely agree Phil. I never put put bags in fishery bins, I take them home. In fact I rarely use full bags in a session (Ive lots of half full bags in the garage), so how can they possibly estimate what bait has gpne into the water? And how do they reckon up all the corn, maggots, meat, casters, groundbait, worms etc? I agree that the fishery owners only want good pellets going into their fisheries but I think its the profiteering that most anglers object to. I fished a commercial on saturday and paid £2.85 for a bag about 800g. Our local shop has 1kg for £2 and I know one that has 1.3kg for £2.85. What's a 20kg bulk bag cost? Do the maths and some places are overvharging ony opinion. Having said all that, the owners make the rules and if you dont like them either dont fish there or use bait other than pellets.

I totally agree Rich it is the inflated price I object to as you say if you don't like the rules don't fish there quite simple really I may of opened a can of worms here quite by accident Sorry guys !!!

How many worms in a can Steve, and are they fishery only worms? And dont forget- no cans allowed on the bank.

I can see both sides of the argument (and own quite a few half bags too). When you look closely at them they all appear the same - and possibly are since there are only two major bulk suppliers!! The best example of forward thinking I have found is Makins Fishery who specify SwimStim pellets - at least you can use any pellets you used three weeks ago on a match 150 miles away and not add a few hundred more nibbles for your resident mice !!

What i dont understand for example moorfields say use their own pellets but dont stop fact anglers use 10 or more tins of sweetcorn each time. Surely the sweet corn is worse for the fish and lake than loads of pellets. I may be wrong. I know meat is bad for lakes but unsure on sweetcorn. Next it be you can only use specific maggots bought from somewhere and green giant swet corn lol. I think if rule was you can only use strettling then its fine. I know some places say no trout pellets

At the end of the day by the time any of us have gone to Cooks (Rotherham)about 1 & half hour trip round from Owl Barn paid for the petrol paid between £30/£35 for a big bag of pellets bought some bags to put them in and spent hours bagging them up into 1 Kilo bags sealing the bags then selling them for £2 per bag (Owl barn price)you would not think you were ripping anyone off. all fisherys have to make a profit and the smaller ones cannot just put the prices up,too much competition from such as Chapeltown & District who could run at £3 a day ticket and (no disrespect) have a better choice of waters. Owl barn are charging us the same as they did 3/4 years ago, just a case of balancing the books. Time we had a day at Westwood Rich you can chuck all your leftover pellets in there when you have done ,
