Watching parts of today's coverage I'm shocked,as were some family members who caught glimpses of the fish handling by the "anglers".. in terms of the event I suppose it's expected......this is not fishing though in my opinion.
what really tickles me though is presenters like Keith Arthur constantly bangin away about fishermen being responsible to protect the future of fish etc!! Yet he sits there on TV advocating the bullying of fish into the net in the quest for the so called mantle of Fishing's Finest prize!
the finest prize for me and always will be is the enjoyment of a day's pleasure fishing.....thanks but no thanks Mr Arthur....

There's no other way to build weights up like they do.

Agree %100 Steve...money comes before the welfare of the fish.

Wat fish enjoys a hook in the gob? Fishing is a pastime for most of us, match fishing is a sport!

Steves post is about the treatment of the fish after the hook is removed.

It's not just Fish O Mania though is it, I've seen weigh ins at my local lakes and been shocked by the treatment from match anglers. They seem to forget they're living things and not just numbers to make up a weight. I can't imagine all match anglers are this way.

Surely programmes like fish a mania and others should be showing other anglers and the general public how to treat the fish with some respect and care at the weigh in.I didn't personally see the programming but I have seen the way anglers sometimes treat the fish at some of the open matches in my area.

I don't know why they don't fetch a rule that fish have got to landed with a landing net then put in water or keepnet in matches with your landing net when unhooked simples

Considering the number of Eejits out there trying to ban our sport, maybe for any TV programs there should be a bit of sense used regarding fish safety and care. We all know the object of Fish O' and the Maver match is to win, but why not make the anglers at least bend over to drop the fish into their nets. No fish over a pound (whatever the equivalent is in foreign !!)should be dropped in from around three feet above the water (based on an angler sat on his box plus around a foot from platform to water). We need to project a better image or the Eejits, even though quiet at the moment, will win the day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
