Got a few days arranged here in September and must admin to feeling a little out of my depth. I have fished quite a few socials and over nighters so not a complete novice but from what i have read on France, finding the clear spots, putting enough bait on it and the keeping you rig on it and waiting for hours if not days has almost got me thinking... What the hell do I think I am doing, and already preparing myself for a blank. Finding info on the venue other than the scutes own comments seems quite hard to come by.
Rather than asking the usual, what bait to use, where to fish blah blah blah I am keen to here what YOU would do preparing for the same trip. Only there for 3 days so I am not sure spending a day searching And another day putting bait in is gonna work for me and planning on 1 fixed rod over a good particle bed with 2 roaming lines trying to search out the fish..?

If you live local to bob co they have some free dvds in the entrance, 1 Nash & 1 korda & the latter there is some quality information on fishing in France. Follow the guidelines on the dvd & your out of depth idea may turn into a trip of a lifetime! Good luck!

Cheers lift bite, over that way next week to get some bits and bobs for the trip so will look out for the DVDs. We're doing a 'drive and survive' for 3 nights so need to make sure I am as well prepared for the camping as I am for the fishing.. Never done more than 24hrs before and then normally have a takeaway...

Naf, There are loads of lakes within a 5 minute drive of were you are going. There are also three or four small villages nearby in the Ribemont area. Worth having a look in the canal as well mate.

Havent been to 3 Isles lake, or Trois Isles, but it is one of the venues that Heratige (one of Tyke66's mates) takes his Reel Aventours clients, so he could be a good source of info on the place, if you can contact him. Apart from that they have done several clips about the place on You Tube, if you haven't already done so I would give them a good coat of looking at. Good luck! BOF

If it's the place that Mal Rimmer, (the guy who runs ReelAventours), was talking about to Wardy and I on the way back from a trip to Normandy last September, then yes the guy is really hands on, and wants folk to come back to his venue, (or at least recommend the spot to their mates). BOF

Joined the 3 island lakes face book page, loads of nice fish have been caught, not all 40 plus's but looks like good 20s and 30s. Certainly bigger than anything I have caught. Not sure if it's a good thing to keep on checking these things ahead of a trip in case it builds up to much hope and expectation and still trying to talk it down in my head, but seriously can't wait now it's only a month away.

Keep your cool Naf, at the moment the weather is not the best for Carping, its a little too warm. But it has time to cool down a little and send the Carp the "time to feed up for winter" message, hopefully just in time for your visit. BOF PS It's pure co-incidence that Elmo and I will be heading for Normandy at a similar time with exactly the same hopes, honest!

It's actually somewhat of a relief to know that if your going at roughly the same time of year and parted with you hard earned cash, We obviously can't have picked the worst ever time to go LOL....

I've just returned from fishing in Normandy (close to Mayenne) and the fishing was hard, a lot of waters in the area are blighted by a specific type of algae that is affecting a lot of lakes in the area - makes the water a brown colour rather than the usual green. According the fishery owner I was with who spoke to a mate in Sparsholt, the algae is a 'sharp' one which gives the fish 'sore throats' - lol. Make of that what you will!! I still caught a few but the fishing was hard and they were certainly acting funny, perfect conditions after the hot weather - low pressure, some very very heavy rain most days too cool off the lake and yet very little activity. Lots of fizzing now and gain which suggested they were feeding on something (could have been the tench) but was very hard to get them to take anything and I tried lots of different boilies, pop ups, maggot, mussels, shrimp, worm etc etc. Hopefully the water you're heading to will be fine, but the community of fishery owners out there are all discussing the same problems of late according to the guy I was with. Dont want to put a downer on your hopes, these things can happen for a few weeks and then everything picks up again so you could hit it when it's turning back on again big time and have a blinder As others have said, speak to the owner/bailif and they will provide plenty of good advice and where and whats working. Have a great tip all who are heading out there soon.

Best advice dont put all your eggs in one basket, fish atleast another bait or flavour of bait and think that chucking a load of bait in straight from the off and just sit back and watch the fish come in does sometimes works though lol. French venues get a serious amount of hammer through the year and will fish probably as hard if not harder than UK venues. Find your spots bait up ittle and often to see how the fish react build your swim up over the days, your there for a full week dont blow it in the first couple of days.

Back from a short weekend trip with real mixed views and feelings... Left Yorkshire Friday afternoon for a night in Kent to be up and off early on the tunnel Saturday morning.. First time I have used it and very impressed with simplicity. Arrived in France, clear out of terminal and on to main roads very quickly and pretty much on one main toll road for 1and half hours. Leaving toll at a grand charge of 12euors for a very clear road and through a few towns and villages to find the fishery, we carried on straight past to the next main town called Ribemont with a supermarket for a few provisions... Amazed to find we could buy just about everything but a bag of ice to keep the bait and beer cold..... Back to the fishery to be met by a guy we thought was the bailiff but turns out to be someone else who had arrived with his Mate to fish. As there was no one to meet them they had already moved their stuff to their chosen pegs, unfortunately one of the legs was at 90deg to three others which restricted the water in front of them so we more or less had to take the only other three pegs available (9 pegs in total). Not a major problem as I actually preferred the three we were left with. Still no signs of a bailiff so we got one with setting up, the weather was blazing and it was proving to be hard work. A bit of time with my market rod ( new to me) but managed to find plenty of clear spots although water seemed quite shallow at 3'. It was obvious the water was down by at least a ft but hoped the shallow depth wouldn't be a problem. It was getting on by this time so first approach was just 2 rods with mainline source and krill boilies surrounded by loose offerings. Wasn't expecting too much and was caught by surprise when the RH rod screamed off late evening. What happened next was quite embarrassing which I put down to excitement and eagerness but I made a complete hash of it from simply picking up the rod and proceeded to loose what felt like a good fish to a hook pull.. rollox After cursing under the French sunset I sorted myself out and put the bait back out.. That night brought a poor nights kip with lots of single bleeps, none ever lasting and usually 15-30 mins apart.... In the morning,Whilst discussing the nights events with my mate in the next swim, my RH rod started off again and line screamed of the reel, this time a little more cautiously I grabbed and lifted into it, fish on.. The fish just seemed to be heavy with occasional jags but more or less came right in to the bank, my mate grabbed the landing net in anticipation but with no more than a twist and a roll to show the girth of the fish, the hook flew out and the fish casually swam away... I was absolutely devastated at this point as having gone not expecting to catch I had now blown 2 chances with strong feeling I wouldn't get another. Rods back out and a start on breakfast and it wasn't long before I got some interest in the RH rod again, this time, slightly different with a few bleeps but no real run. I lifted the rod into another fish but nowhere near the resistance expected, however a very nice tench came to the net, not quite the target fish but I will take it. The rest of the day was quiet, neither of my mates had anything and only one of the other guys had landed a 24lb through the night. still no bailiff which did seem really bizarre, hope we were on the right lake..... A quite Sunday followed by a quite night. But in preparation for the night I had marked out and spodded a good amount of particle over 1 spot and pellets over another. Also went for a 3rd rod through the night. Again a few bleeps but nothing like previous night. Did get a persistent set of beeps to get up for around 2ish, lifted rod to be absolutely solid, was it a massive fish, was it a snag, after moving up and down the bank pulling in different directions. Managed to get free and dragged in someones end tackle, weight and a huge amount of line.. Attached to the line was a cheeky little crayfish... No more that night or morning but at least the bailiff arrived on Monday to advise us where to fish I which needed an almighty chuck over a 12inch deep gravel bar where the Sturgeon supposedly swam. Neither of my mates had caught but the other 2 guys had one each through the night.. Put plenty more bait back out to the farther spots which were very hard to reach but as it was the last night we all were desperate.. We even took a paddle boat to drop the baits in to the right spots and fished pop ups as recommended by the bailiff. The result for me on the last night was not even a beep' probably should have stood to my own plan but too late now.. One of my mates did manage to 2 runs through the night but never landed either. The other caught a crayfish. The other two guys also struggled and were now sending bait boats and foam markers out, much further than you could ever cast too and probably closer to our swims than there own.. So end of 3 days and 3 nights and one tench to show but to be honest I really enjoyed my time on the bank with my mates. I actually thought I would be bored stupid and although I kept saying to myself, don't expect to catch, I really thought I would get a new PB with ease and if I had landed either fish I probably would have, still can't believe I messed up my chances but loved the trip all the same. Not sure I would go back to the same place as even though it looked lovely, the two other guys fished France 3 x a year for the last 20 years and said it was very very hard. No one was all that Impressed that the bailiff wasn't there to greet people on arrival and share some advise with them or at least to show us how the fridge, generator etc worked. Already booking for the usual Holland trip next year but not going to rule out a cheeky few days in France if I get the chance and of course wife permitting.... Pics to follow if i can post them from my iPad... Tom

If the bailiff was a scruffy looking guy in a clapped out old banger, that's the multi millionaire that owns the spot Naf, (and no that's not a wind up). Nice to see rods set out properly for a change, (with all the tips facing the bait), instead of all lined up to the micron on some sort of a pod, but with the lines almost at right angles to the rods. Not sure about that, but he didn't have a very good English vocabulary and I thought owner was English.. There is another lake leading to this, most unusual set up as it looks like the pegs are 'privately' owned, some well manicured, many overgrown and lots with little wooden huts fir storing tackle or just sitting in.. Wonder what it costs to lease a peg.. Wonder if it will ever take in in uk......

That doesnt sound like him, I thought Heratige said he had good English. Maybe he has hired someone as a general groundsman / bailiff? BOF
