Can you tell me how the ea justifys charging us carpers 2 lots of fees when we use three rods ? I fish on a private syndicate lake which suffered a fish kill a few years ago because of the floods and what did the ea do for our venue diddly squat that's what and yet I'm expected to pay for 2 licences to fish my venue ? Just to expand on 'cookies' question...........
When licensing was introduced the EA charged everyone a fee to fish up to 2 rods. However with the increase in carp fishing and the number of anglers fishing with 3 rods we dont believe this is value for money. Why should an adult pay £13.50 for a rod that is never used?
Are there any plans for the EA to look at the scaling of payments?

and it's not just the specimen anglers, why should match and pleasure anglers be charged for 2 rods when they only ever use one

I appreciate Cookie, your problem probably isn't with the actual price it's with the 'what you get for your money' and that is an opinion shared by many. The licenses work out at barely a quid a week if you are using 3 rods and only a quid a fortnight when only on one license - So with regards to the cost i do not see the problem is (This is aimed at anyone generally bemoaning the cost). We've got have one, it's the law and it's just one of many, many things that many of us disapprove of in today's society, unfortunately. Ponty Owl, the problem with creating a '1 rod license' or indeed a '3 rod license' (which i will get to in a minute) at a lower price is that a very large percentage of anglers would then buy these instead, as many only use one rod (i.e. Match anlgers, pleasure anglers) and this would cause a big loss in license income, so in my opinion the EA would never introduce it as they are struggling as it is for funding. There is the same problem with lobbying a 3 rod license - Do they want to make anglers happy? Or do they want to make money? However with a 3 rod license, they may not actually make a loss at all - as a lot of 2 rod anglers would then buy one and it would then depend how many holders of 2 licenses do the same as to whether it would work financially. The EA is a Government 'business' - remember that

The two licences for 3 rods is just daft IMHO I use 4 rods while on the boat bait fishing but I have to fetch one in if I want to use a lure around my baits, I can see its a pain for the carp lads but IMHO 3 lines in your swim is more than enough

If you can afford £15-£25 night to fish carp venues, whats another £27 a year out of your pocket. If you want to keep up with the Jonses and or 4 rods, stop whinging and get your wallet out!!! PS-If I had my way,a maximum would be 2 rods only, then you would soon want to get another licence to fish 3 or 4 rods regardless of cost! Ricky 3200-

Your missing my point mate,I just don't see how my 54 a year is justified when the waters I fish have never had nor never will have any input off the ea,I'll give you an example majestic were I fish now and again had a otter problem yet did the ea grant them any cash for a fence nope the got told there were no funds available yet the ea will patrol round there lake for license dodgers ??

I never use 3 rods & probably use 1 a lot more than i use 2 . The amount of times ive turned up at a fishery paid for two rods & ended up using just one is unreal . I only pay for 2 at the beginning now if im there for at least 48 , i know ive got plenty of water to go at & the lakes not already full of lines . I can understand ( though i don't agree ) why commercials charge per rod , but for the EA to charge the lads for an extra licence after they've paid for the ticket to use 3 is in my opinion ridiculous . Its one of the many things in angling we have to thank the commercial for A ticket should be one price 3 rod limit ( some fisheries do this & these are the ones i prefer rather than the money hunters ) & a licence should be one price 3 rod limit & not a con job .

Sorry but i think the answer given is just pure unedulterated bull***t.
How can you say the admin cost justify's it, most of it is done on line or through Post office counters who are a seperate entity and supply the admin.
Its a pure and simple stealth tax.

I think the rod license system is ok to be honest, ok good for some, bad for others but in all, ok! I'm not the ea but it's my opinion I follow the ea on twitter and everyday they ask for questions and everyday they answer them. If a revolution is needed then aim to the top, not the soles posting the responses, some of the comments on here ought to be on the "what makes you cringe" thread Respect n happy fishing to all All the above in my opinion

Please enlighten me Well cookie you've done it!! Off the EA web site......................... Licence Duties and Conditions Licence duties and conditions are set for 2012 and 2013, but we are currently considering our licence duty proposals for 2014 and beyond. We will be reviewing certain aspects of the licensing system to give better service to rod licence payers. We will be addressing the number of rods allowed per licence as part of this review. Options for change are currently being considered, but there is strong support to allow three rods on one licence for stillwater fishermen. We will be consulting on firm proposals early next year. The cost for the extra licence would depend on the number of anglers involved, but would probably not exceed £10.

The more the better until anglers realise you need a license. Bit like having a car with no road tax!
