Is there any way that we could get the money from fines over pollution ,licence dodgers etc etc , to go back into the local E.A coffers say like the speeding fines go to the local police to improve road safety rather than going to central Government where it just gets swallowed by the country's debts regards Malc.

Hi Malc
Our role is to bring a prosecution as an independent body to the Courts, and the courts then issue and administer any fine as a result.
We have successfully claimed costs from polluters, which have paid for the restocking of fish, or habitat improvements, following successful prosecutions. We are also able to apply to the courts to recover our costs in bringing the offender to court. This means that the offender pays for the time incurred by the Environment Agency in bringing the prosecution.
I’ll be posting more information about the number of people taken to court both nationally and in the Yorkshire and North East region along with average fines and costs in a few moments time.
