On 2 occasions recently I have stupidly left my rod licences at home and gone off fishing. What would be the position had I been asked to produce by the EA Would my name and address be sufficient to verify that I did hold licences?

The law states that it is an offence not to produce a valid licence when requested to do so by an Agency officer or Police constable.
However, if an angler for whatever reason does not have their licence with them we can check their details against our database on the bank. We need to make sure that the person we are talking to is who they say they are and this might mean checking more than one system and being asked to produce another form of identification.
This procedure takes time and this time could be spent better pursuing those who are fishing without a licence or committing other fisheries offences.
I would ask that everyone makes an extra effort to make sure that they have their licence with them when they go fishing.

Peter It was the answer I expected and so I am going to have to change something as I keep my licences in my wallet and the back pocket of my fishing trousers is very deep and I finish up sitting rather uncomfortably on the wallet so left it at home twice forgetting that it holds my licences. No doubt some wag will suggest I have too much money in it! I agree with you that we should all keep our licences with us as it allows you to check on the bank and reduces the workload of having to double check with a database.
