I live in Scarborough and the mere used to have a pretty poor reputation, it's come on leaps and bounds by all accounts. The place is fully of Carp and as tyke said there are also some nice tench in there. There are 3 lakes, a little match lake, the boating lake which is a little larger and there is the main lake which is the first lake you come to from the road. Having not fished it recently I did go for a walk about a couple of times last summer and there were Carp crashing all over the place in the lillies on the main lake just in the margins. I might fish it this summer and my main line of attack would be a float in the margins. It makes me laugh to myself seeing all those muppets sitting in bivvies hurling spods and pva bags on to the horizon when the fish are under their rod tips or cruising on the surface!
i fished it last weekend mate i didnt catch anything though it was really hard fishing i had to fish the 2nd largest part of the lake because there was a 48hr match on the main part of the lake, i didnt see a fish in the water the whole time i was there, i only fished til mid afternoon, and decided to pack up,
