Lake Semmerwater is not to far past Aysgarth on the A684 near a little place called Bainbridge.
I first heard about Semmerwater from the owner of my local tackle shop back in december of 2008 and have fished it a few times since then about 7 or 8 at a guess, always targeting pike.
It is a huge water and when i first saw it i didnt no where to start lol but suprisingly in all the times i have been i have only failed to catch once, so ther must be a few in ther. It looks like it could produce a real monster, the biggest i have had out of it was only 8.5lb.
I cant find much information about the lake and it is very rare that i see anyother anglers when i go.
I was wondering if any of you have fished Semmerwater? It would be good to hear of your catches and find out if ther are any monsters out there.
Semerwater used to be the place to go for bream and roach on long range feeder tactics. Around fifteen years or so ago pike anglers started to take a bit of notice of the place. From all I've seen, it has done fish over twenty pounds in the past but I've not heard much about the place in the last five years or so. I've had the odd pike to about fifteen pounds out of there over the years from very infrequent trips (the weather up there is usually horrible!)
Semerwater is the lake in my avatar , its a place i love to fish although with its remoteness & time it takes me to travel there its not somewhere i fish often . The fishing isn't easy especially in the conditions your likely to encounter there ( cant remember ever being warm ) but the rewards are definitely there . If your after the Bream Roach Perch etc then the feeder & plenty of groundbait doesn't have to be fancy plain brown crumb as the bulk laced with maggots casters chopped worm & on the hook a cocktail of any of them or sometimes corn gets you the better fish . If your after the Pike its even worth taking the groundbait etc & piling it in because if the shoal fish settle on the bait the Pike wont be far away . Alternatively you can travel light & move around to try & find the fish which at least keeps you warm as well . One other invaluable tip for Semerwater whatever species or style your fishing is a pair of waders or at least a pair of wellies to gain you that extra yardage on the cast .
