57lb Pike? Angling Times, Oulton Hall Fishery « Thread Started on Oct 13, 2009, 1:26pm »
Good Afternoon to all,
As featured in todays "Angling Times Paper" aparent news off a Pike that has "obliturated" current UK records of 57lb at Oulton Hall Fishery, has been called "ridiculous".
In todays front headlines Scott McHugh has sent a picture which is seen slightly fuzzled in quality a 57lb Pike from Oulton Hall Fishery. The papers have contacted me and used words like "ridiculous" "far-fetched". Could Scott who denies all accusations hold the UK Record by 57lb.
The papers have then made out myself the Bailiff denial any such fish in the Lake which I can deny and say the Lake has been there over 100 Years and could hold any such fish. I do know there is 30/40lb +.
If you do get hold of the paper have a good read and look at the Picture, let me know what you think, and let me tell you now some of the words are liable in how they have used them.
A quote from Mick Brown "If it was the only pike in the lake and the venue was absolutely rammed with trout then maybe it could reache this size but in reality ive probably got more chance to win the grand national"
But does he know its been there over 100 years?...

Just been to ASDA to look at the picture, which is very poor to say the least, the fish looks like it was a good fish when at its max weight (possible 30lb) but the fish looks long and thin and possibly on its way out I would say 22lb at its current weight max, but without a good picture to look at its hard to say.

Yeah appreciate you guys ideas, the guy who caught this is "positive" it's true but it's hard without proper proof, I didn't witness the Catch which yet falls more doubt.

Hmm...
Can you recognise the area the fish was caught from or the angler and if so did anybody else witness the capture?

Slightly looks like the first pegs as you walk in near the island, the picture was done by night fishing which is at £8 for the night, and he took the picture, however when he sent the picture in to Angling Times, they had to enhance to make it lighter. Which probably adds more fuzzyness to the image.
The strange thing is, he never came to us to say he caught this, which yet adds more confusion, so it's weird really. But he's positive this is what came out and at that size, he's that positive he wants us to drain the pond ha ha!
Which unfortunately costs extremely alot of money to do so.
Hopefully someone can attempt to catch this fish, but we'll see.

I would imagine that your place will get hammered now whether the story is true or not...which will have a negative impact on the pike fishing long term.
I secretly hope the kid did catch it at such a huge weight, i just wish he hadn't named the water...just look at what happened at Boddington Res recently...

Why has the lake been there over 100 years got anything to do with it just because a lake is old means nothing. Theres plenty of waters which are thousands of years old for a fish to grow to that size it needs plenty of easy food.

ermmm....... I was going to go down for a chuck this weekend with a deadbait, but i believe also this will cause so many to "hammer" the water i wont bother.
They say any publicity is no bad publicity but this naming is a shame. Kids without proper tackle or equipment ,knowledge or care for your fish will no doubt kill anything with teeth as well as the Immigrants getting there knifes and forks ready!!
I do hope to save the water it will be bailiff/policed hard
P.S. I have not seen the photo/article yet but find it hard to believe

I can quite assure you the Publicity is not what was "requested" in any way or form, I received a phone call a week ago, and have seen this in the paper. I'm upset in a way maybe that they have done this however we'll take things as it comes.
I appreciate the 100 Years plus means nothing, however it's a positive to add, the Bailiffed and Policing will double, so I wouldn't worry about that.
"Live Baiting" will continue to be banned, and we can ask to check Bait being used if appropriate, I appreciate your comments and discussion as this also worried me!!

P.S Just been down and had two Pike fishermen, who are using correct bait and equipment.
Can you recognise the area the fish was caught from or the angler and if so did anybody else witness the capture?

Maybe you should shut the lake and let me come down and fish it until I catch the new British Record

A Pike of that size needs a large amount of food to sustain itself, there for feeding often and ferociously, plenty of people Pike fish Oulton, why hasnt it been caught before
