I had a walk around this evening. There were about 8 people fishing along the closest bank to the car park. They were catching constantly, bream, crucian carp and tench, fishing only a few metres out at barely two foot deep.

Bit of advice don't try paddling a few metres out ;D ;D ;D
they may have been fishing just below the surface but it very quickly gets very deep on that side most of the way along the bank.one of the most consistant waters I know you can catch well from just about every peg there,

Yeah I thought it looked really good. I've fish two or three small ponds in our area in the last few weeks and whilst they're great, I do fancy something a bit bigger, Westwood fits the bill perfectly.

I did walk away with a carrier bag full of sharp tins, line and food wrappers though :( Does the pond suffer from being close to the houses?

Just to point out that the litter is nothing to do
with the houses nearby. This is left solely by cretins who call
themselves anglers. Seems funny to me that you can carry
a full box of beer and cant manage to take the empties away,
as I said.idle cretins spoiling it for the majority.

at present dont think there are any particular pegs fishing better than ohers it depends on what methods you prefer. If you prefer pole on the deck try pegs 25 to 30 (these are deep pegs 8 to 10 feet) with pellet or pole up in the water 1 to 3 feet deep in pegs 23 to 33 with maggot, caster or pellet. If you prefer feeder try any of the peg on the field side from 8 to 17 or house side 32 up.If you want to fish waggler up in water 1 to 3 feet deep this works well on most pegs. You can also catch well on any peg close in next to reeds . I havn,t mentioned dam head as although this fishes well with all methods each peg needs to be approached differently remembering there are a lot of snags due to the design of the wall. Obviously there are other pegs on the dam i havnt mentioned not because they are worse than the others i am just trying to give you a brief rundown on pegs and methods.Hope this helps

I don't know the peg numbers yet....whats the order of them? Maybe some talented person could knock up a few line drawings and put them on the venue reviews? I'd have a go but I don't know the waters.

I beleive the pegs are numbered 1 to17 the far bank starting from furthest away from wall, following on round the damheadand up the house side bank,I also beleive that they have been painted (the numbers) recently, could be wrong on this though.

Its not thwe experience match anglers that are the prblem Hooky, Its the people that turn up at 7am, stick there keepnet in and then load it with fish all day until they pack up at 8pm, Its easy to say well just have a 5 hour limit on keepnets, but its too hard to moniter as people will always try and cheat the rule. It s easyier to just Ban them.

I can tell you exactly why keep nets were banned at howbrook,(the same people run Westwood at the time)come Monday morning after the weekends fishing there were lots of dead fish floating about + one incident where someone had about 100lb of bream on the bank side for a long time while he got his photo taken with no regard what so ever for the fishes welfare, now it is a rarity to see dead fish at any of the CDDA. venues other than what die from natural causes and as paste says in general match men are more experienced at handling fish, and they are not in the net all day, unfortunately you can not distinguish between good anglers and those not so good so a ban on using nets except for competition has been in-forced at most waters to protect the fish.

The gate is usually open for 7am
Permit holders can obtain keys at extra cost and
you can always park on road if they are closed.
Cheers

Whoo-woo. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Won my first ever match today at westwood, after finishing second on a number of occasions, and though the feild was not great in numbers it was still a match with quality anglers, who know the venue a bit better than me,I targeted the bream on the bottom totally oposite to how I normally fish but as it was murky, with a lot of surface debry passing by,this turned out to be the correct tactics,

1st,P,Sanderson.21lbs 10oz.
2nd,F.Skitt 12lbs 14oz
3rd R,Sommerset 11lbs 4oz
4th, N Wood 11lb 02oz
5th E Casson 10lb10oz,

all silvers on a hard day.
