Jerome has phoned a friend!
Richard Atkinson is working with the Dearne Access Steering Group. He says:
Generally speaking we would not set a specific water level for canoeists. Water levels are very site specific and every river is different. As you maybe aware on the River Dearne we are in the latter stages of determining when and where canoeists can use the river in consultation with local anglers, canoeists and other users of the river.

Thank you do we have a date for the next steering party meeting or has it gone further than that and if there is to be another meeting where will it be held . so could it be put to say canoeists that they should not travel a stretch if they touch bottom on a natural paddle stroke, regards Malc.

The next Dearne Access Steering Group meeting will be held today at Manvers Waterfront Boat Club. The group comprises of different users of the Dearne including anglers, canoeist, landowners, EA and people with biodiversity interests (RSPB and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust).
The Steering Group are looking at different options when allowing canoeing at different water levels. This is most important at specific spawning times where we would wish to prevent paddlers touching spawning gravels.
