milton pond, hoyland « Thread Started on Apr 20, 2007, 12:58pm »
i went up to fish on hoylands milton top pond the other day and although a not bad days fishing catching a small carp and a pretty decent size roach and 4 more roach, was dissappointed to see the bailiff carrying a pike at arond 12 - 15 lbs (estimate) head first, tail out of a black binliner. needlessly killed. i have heard people talking about someone putting pike into the bottom pond and the kids that fish there getting there silverfish battered by pike when there on the hook. I fully understand that pike should definately NOT be in there and am aware of how they damage stock. yes the pike definately need to be removed but once removed is it really necsessary to kill the fish? NO there is a small strech of canal in elsecar nobody looks after around a 3 min drive from the pond, theres pike already in there as well as pleanty of roach, gudgeon, carp, bream even though 450lbs of fish were netted from it not so long ago and transported to the res near elsecar park (which is fishing well i hear!!). could they not have just arranged a car and moved the pike without killing it, why waste specimine or what could become specimine fish by just killing them and saying the phrase 'nothing to worry about, its ONLY a pike' i cant understand anglers who see pike as an annoyance therefore see them as disposeable, i understand the fact they are not wanted is most commercial ponds but was disgusted at the careless killing of what i think is a fantastic fish. pike are my favourite species and will continue to be. all i really wanted to put accross is THINK before you kill a pike. and the pike still in the pond to be treat as they would treat any other course fish, with a bit of respect.
Have heard rumours and hearsay of these pike being Illegeally put into milton ponds, also heard that someone threatened to report the owners/tenants if they took them out and put them somewhere else?Which would also be illegal. will try to find more out today, However if you have spent time and money getting a water upto a good condition most clubs would not tolerate someone bringing a predater fish from elsewhere and putting it in their waters!
its a new computer, the clock is wrong I know how to change it but I have so many things to do programming the dam thing it will have to wait. on the Milton thing, the EA were contacted by the club and they were not allowed to move the fish to another water,(we had the same problem at the nancy pond)the person who sealed the fate of the fish is the person who PUT the fish in a water where it did not belong.fish have to be health checked before they can be moved for the safty of the waters that they are going into. This unfortunatly is done by killing a few and testing them. With just one fish this cannot be done.
its a shame they were put in im not having a go at noone just wondered if the canal could have been a option to save the fish, its daft really going to the trouble putting em in there.

It's right what mat says. It isn't a lot of effort to put a couple of lads on the pond, catch as many pike as possible and transport them to the local canal, river or a bigger lake such as elsecar res.
This pond is still fishing well ,even though the weeds are right up to the pegs now,,been up this morning with my lad fished peg 5&6 had at least 30 bream 12 roach a few crusion and the odd tench,,place bubbling and fizzing with fish feeding like mad,,PLEASE SOMEONE CLEAN UP THE PEGS AND WEEDS,,,,,,,

I am told the weeds are now over running the top pond.I know they tried to poisen them some time ago, but to be blunt made a mess of it,now they have some real hard work on their hands getting rid of it as you can only put poisen in about a quater of the pond at once as it de-oxygenates the water, shame on such a good water.

Probably the unluckiest angler this week managed to land a beautiful Mirror in a match today,(about 8lbs) only to be told he could only have a 1lb for it (some club rule) about winter matches this fish would have won the match as around 8 lb won the match there today.
